For the last while, 10 months or so I have been spending some time trying to teach myself Affiliate Marketing and Search Engine Marketing without my success.  It seemed that no matter how much work I did before I started a campaign I lost money.  Luckily I followed Shoemoney’s advice and did small tests.  If you have success tweak to get better success, if not figure out why and then try again.  My problem was that I could never figure out what I was doing wrong.  I did the niche reseach to ensure that I was not trying to get into a saturated market, then I went to CJ and Azoogle to find some good programs for said niche, and then I did the keyword research to get as many cheap long-tail keywords that I could.

Last night I decided that there just seems to be too much money available to affiliate marketers not to try to break into it.  I know that if I spent the 2hours a night that I have set aside the RIGHT way I could reach the goals that I set for myself in no time at all.  The catch is learning how to spend the time correctly.

After reading around for a bit I bought Jeremy Palmer’s E-book.  I haven’t started reading it yet, so I really don’t know if it is going to do me any good, when I have finished and tried out some of his ideas I will be sure to let everybody know.

I never knew that this blog was so popular.  In less than a week I have had over 800 spam comments blocked.  I knew that it was high but I never knew how high.

Ever since installing Akismet I have noticed that only a very few of the spam are getting through.  Now I am actually getting, or should be getting, comments on my directory lists that are actual directories and not just links to porn blogs.

I recommend strongly if you have a blog to install Akismet as soon as you get the blog on the go.  It is not very hard and it will save you hours of frustration when it starts to catch all of that spam.

::PS::

This is not a paid or requested review, Akismet is just that damn good.

::EDIT::

Wow it was a busy weekend for spammers, I am now at ~2000 spam caught by the Mighty Akismet. I must be getting more popular, or is it because I did a couple posts on DP with this blog in the postbit? hmmm.

I have a joke site that I have been playing around with on the side.  I had been pretty good at making sure that I had been updating it one way or another every single day, but lately I haven’t been doing very good.

However, it is one of the sites that I consistently make money on via Adsense.  I am starting to think that if I want to start making some more passive income I am going to have to start adding more content to the site.  Maybe ensure that I spend one hour a week and just go nuts and add any funny stuff that I see online.  I figure that if I just bookmarked all of the stuff that I see during the week and spend an hour and make a post for all of it then I am sure that I could have at least one post every day.

Like I was saying before I am getting really busy at work, and as always that means less time spending on my sites.

To make this all work I am doing more focus on specific tasks.  First off I am going to make sure that I have all of the scripts that I am using up to date.  I found out yesterday that someone had hacked into one of my sites, changed the PP email and has been getting my sales for the last little while.  Since the site is not very busy this probably went on longer than was necessary, but it still meant lost revenue, and maybe even lost content.  So that makes #1

#2 is that I am going to be spending more and more time working on developing the sites that I have right now.  I have a few ideas for the sites that are making money now on how to make even more money from them.  My goals like I said before is to make $10 for every hour that I spend working online.  To do that and still be able to work on new projects I am going to have to start making more passive income from my existing sites.  I don’t think that this should be too hard, but it is still something that I am going to have to spend time on.

#3 is to ensure that I am enjoying the process.  I am going to cut as much of the stuff that I don’t like doing and either farm it out or find NEW and improved ways of doing the same thing.  This is a hobby afterall and therefore I should enjoy it :)

I have finally broken down and installed Akismet.

I have been dealing with about 200 spam a day and in the process have been deleting just about all of them. I figure I have deleted more than one legit comment in the last little while.

So Akismet should take care of everything. I hope
