If you are trying to lose weight and looking to cut away unnecessary foods from your diet, look to cut away empty calories.  Empty calories is a term that is used by nutritionists for foods that contain lots of calories but give you limited benefit.

One of the most well know items to have plenty of empty calories is soda.  Some sodas contain over 150 calories for each serving and deliver to the body mostly processed sugar.  Many people can drink 3 or 4 servings of soda each day for a total of 600 empty calories.

Other foods with empty calories are fast foods such as French fries.  There are French fries that contain over 500 calories per serving.  For that amount of calories you can literally eat a balanced dinner.

Most health professionals state that it is much more beneficial to eat foods that deliver great vitamins and minerals then to waste precious calories on foods that just deliver fat and sugar.  It is very easy to find foods that are loaded with empty calories, just look at the nutrition labels on your food items that you buy at the supermarket. So if you are looking to lose weight and get in shape forget about empty calories.
