If you are web developer or a search engine optimizer, then your goal is to bring as much traffic to your site as possible. There are many proven methods to drive traffic; here are a few of them.

Obviously one of the best ways to drive traffic to your site is to rank high in the search engines.  Ranking high in the search engines means that you have to optimize your web site and web pages internally and externally.  Internal optimization includes keyword density, concise Meta tags and proper template formatting.  External optimization can include link building, web site submissions and blog and pinging.

Many people use Google Adwords to drive traffic to their web site.  If you sell a product or service no matter if it is an affiliate product, you can generate income by driving traffic by paying a few cents a click.  If you are selling an item with a commission or profit of $20, you can usually draw possibly hundreds of people to your site for that amount of money and still make a profit.

Banner exchanges are also a great idea.  You can share your banner with dozens of other web sites and these exchanges usually cost you little or nothing for the traffic that you receive.

Another great idea is to advertise your web site on forums and blogs.  Many people read blogs and forums.  Find a category or topic that fits your web site.
